Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, Skoda Auto will launch the Yeti facelift in India on 10th September. The Yeti is a very capable SUV, albeit priced optimistically in the segment and failed to generate the desired sales for Skoda India. However, the facelifted model promises much better styling, addition of new features and a more competitive price tag. Changes on the 2014 Yeti include a revised front and rear fascia that is in-sync with Skoda’s new design language seen on the Octavia.
The Yeti gets revised headlights, new butterfly design grille, comprehensively revised bumpers and new headlight cluster that gets integrated LEDs. The lines are sharper on the 2014 Yeti that run across the hood and side profile and lend an overall fresh appeal to the SUV. Skoda has retained the overall silhouette of the Yeti from the outgoing version, but has managed to make the SUV look younger. The rear on the other hand gets mild updates and features C-shaped tail lights.
Moving inside the cabin, the changes are equally extensive with cosmetic tweaks to the dashboard and updated upholstery. In terms of equipment, the 2014 Skoda Yeti features a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone AC, cruise control, powered driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, individually folding rear seats, optical parking assistant and a lot more.
The 2014 Skoda Yeti will continue to be powered by the same 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that is available in two states of tune. The 110 BHP with 250 Nm of torque version comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels, while the 140 BHP with 320 Nm of torque version comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Skoda could update the Yeti with a DSG automatic gearbox as well but the same won’t be offered at the time of launch.
Struggling to maintain momentum in the market, Skoda recently stated that the Czech automaker will focus on Rapid and above segment vehicles. The Yeti even though being an excellent SUV with car like driving dynamics failed to sell because of the high pricing and Skoda’s lack of focus towards Indian market needs. However, the automaker has promised a different approach towards the market as well as improved after sales and service experience.
