The 2016 Skoda Superb B8 is miles ahead of the outgoing model being lighter, sharper and more spacious while also packing in a plethora of features.
Skoda India is strongly known for its premium sedan the Superb that manages to retail very well against the competition. With a luxurious and spacious cabin that can even put the best of German “luxury” sedans to shame, the Superb is the more apt choice for the chauffeur driven business class while also being fun on the weekends. Given the strong following of the brand in India, Skoda has now imported the assembly tool set for the next generation Superb B8 in the country that could be launched in the second half of the year.
The new generation Skoda Superb was unveiled at the company’s home market Prague earlier this year and subsequently made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in the first week of March. The sedan in its newest avatar looks more aggressive taking inspiration from the VisionC concept and packs a host of visually enticing lines and a well sculpted front hood. In addition, the new Superb now gets 80 mm longer wheelbase while the overall length has been trimmed by 61 mm. Most noticeable change to the design are the new headlights while the tail lights feature LEDs.
In terms of power, the 2016 Skoda Superb will come with the new 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine that is tuned to produce 240 PS, paired to a DSG transmission. While we expect this powerplant to make it to the Indian version, the 1.8-litre TSI four-cylinder motor will also be retained from the outgoing model. The automaker confirmed earlier that there won’t be any V6 engines on offer on the new generation model.
Loaded with a plethora of features including the MirrorLink system, Apple or Android CarPlay system, 610 watts 12-speaker audio system, wireless smartphone charging, on-board WiFi, headrest mounted tablets, individual climate control and much more, Skoda India will continue to bring the new generation Superb via the CKD route keeping the prices competitive. Given the popularity of the sedan, it is good to see the automaker prioritize the Indian market if it chooses to launch the sedan this year itself. The other possibility could be that of the Superb B8 arriving at the Auto Expo, early next year. More details on Skoda’s plans will be known in the coming months.
