Skoda, the second largest brand of the Volkswagen Group is well known to the mass market of India for good quality and an involving driving experience which it offers with its entire portfolio of cars. Currently, the Czech carmaker has a vehicle lineup which is priced from Rs. 6 lakhs in India. The brand does not have entry level cars which makes for a major chunk of sales in our market, dominated by the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, etc.
Skoda is not considering developing cheap cars for markets like India as they don’t want to lose their premium carmaker tag. The company is also not willing to sacrifice the high quality and safety standards it follows. The cheapest car in its present portfolio is the Citigo (and it will remain so) which is not available in our market. Skoda has designed fabulous cars in its history and is currently developing new models which reaches the expectations of its customers. The automaker has also kept focus on developing eco-friendly as well as hybrid engines which reduces fuel consumption.
In addition to developing new vehicles, Skoda is also expanding their market presence globally and is also building new manufacturing facilities. The carmaker wants to have dynamic growth in the coming years and has also revealed plans of launching a large SUV by 2016. Skoda will also launch natural gas variants across its entire lineup step by step, which in-turn reduces the amount of exhaust emissions by 20 to 25 percent.
