Skoda Compact SUV Spotted From New Angles

Skoda compact SUV prototype spotted from different angles revealing new details

Skoda is gearing up to enter the competitive compact SUV segment, aiming to rival established models. Recent spy shots have provided the clearest view yet of Skoda’s forthcoming baby SUV, showcasing its side profile and fascia details.

The new Skoda compact SUV appears to adopt a scaled-down version of the Kushaq’s design, maintaining Skoda’s family DNA. The vehicle features a smaller rear door and minimal rear overhang to stay within the sub 4-meter length requirement.

The SUV’s front windshield is slightly more upright compared to the Kushaq, potentially allowing more space for the front occupants by positioning the seats closer to the dashboard. The sheet metal profiling seems simpler, suggesting a streamlined production process. A prominent C-pillar design is reminiscent of the larger Kushaq, adding to the vehicle’s robust appearance.

The spy shots reveal significant details about the SUV’s front fascia. The vehicle sports a split headlight design, with the upper sections housing LED daytime running lights and the lower sections containing the main headlights. Notably, the design omits traditional fog lights, a trend Skoda appears to be embracing. The tail lights, which resemble those on the VW Taigun more than the Kushaq, feature a sleeker LED signature with halogen turn indicators positioned below.

Additional exterior features include a shark fin antenna, faux roof rails and a high-mount stop lamp. To keep costs manageable, premium features such as a sunroof and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are expected to be excluded from this model.

Under the hood, the new Skoda compact SUV will be equipped with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine producing 114 BHP and 178 Nm of torque. Buyers will have a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

By entering the compact SUV segment, Skoda aims to capitalise on the tax benefits available to B-segment vehicles in India. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the likes.
