Skoda Auto Volkswagen India crosses 1.5 million vehicle production milestone
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached several significant milestones at its vehicle and engine manufacturing facility in Chakan, India.
One of the company’s major achievements is surpassing the production of 1.5 million vehicles at the Chakan Plant. This milestone, marked since the rollout of the first Skoda Fabia in 2009, includes notable models from the Volkswagen Group such as the VW Vento, Polo, Skoda Fabia, Rapid and newer models based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, including the VW Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia.
Additionally, the Engine Shop at the Chakan facility has produced over 3,00,000 units of engines for the Volkswagen Group. This accomplishment is bolstered by a commitment to domestic sourcing, particularly for the 1.0L TSI engines.
SAVWIPL celebrated another significant achievement with the production of 3,00,000 units of the INDIA 2.0 car range, which includes the VW Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. These vehicles, designed and engineered in India, have received a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP for both adult and child occupants.
Beyond domestic production, SAVWIPL plays a crucial role in positioning India as a global manufacturing hub. The company exports over 30 percent of its production to more than 40 countries. SAVWIPL ranks among the top four exporters of India-made cars.
