Topping the chart once again is the Maruti Swift with 22,643 units sold in September, a strong 75 percent sales growth. It is followed by the Baleno and Alto which sold 19,433 (70 percent growth) and 18,246 units (up by 21 percent) respectively.
In fourth, fifth and sixth places come Wagon R and Dzire from Maruti and Creta from Hyundai. Both Wagon R and Creta saw considerable growth, but the Maruti compact sedan lost out this time around and registered 11 percent degrowth.
Last four cars in the top 10 are two Marutis (Eeco and Ertiga) and Hyundais (Grand i10/Nios and Elite i20) each. While the seventh, eighth and ninth placed cars saw sales grow, 10th placed Elite i10’s sales dropped by a small margin.
Next to the top 10, the Kia Sonet (9266, 11th) outsold the Seltos (9079, 13th), while two of the three Tata products in the list, Tiago (17th, 6080), Nexon (18th, 6007) saw sales double over the same period last year. Altroz in 19th spot sold 5952 units.
Renault managed to get two cars in the September 2020 car sales top 25 list, but only the Kwid saw sales grow, while the Triber lost 12 percent of its sales this time around.
There are several positive signs that can be taken from the list and that is that only five cars posted negative growth and that too not by a large margin. The number of cars with double digit growth is 15. There are two cars with triple digit growth as well.
