We take a look at the sales of compact sedans as well as C-segment and D-segment sedans in India for the month of November 2015.
The compact sedan segment sees the most demand out of all the sedan segments in India. The Swift DZire has been leading the pack and looking at its sales, it seems that things are going to remain unchanged at least for the next one year. The launch of the DZire AMT will only boost sales further. The Amaze is doing good for itself considering it is the least equipped when compared to competition. The Xcent is closely tailing the Amaze but sales of this Hyundai have fallen a bit in the past few months. The Ford Figo Aspire, which is such a terrific package is unfortunately not selling good enough. Surprising to see the old Tata Indigo CS selling more than the new Zest. Sales trends are going to remain similar now unless a new product comes and shakes up the segment.
Talking about the C-segment, well the competition in this segment has become a bit too boring now. There are no new products coming and the existing ones are displaying similar sales trends since the past many months. Honda continues to rule the market with the City while Maruti has secured the second position with the Ciaz. The Etios, a very reliable and cheap to run sedan is a cabbie’s favourite. Hyundai seems to have lost on sales big time, more so after the introduction of the Verna 4S.
Sales of the Skoda Rapid are quite ahead of its cousin, the Volkswagen Vento. Other than these sedans, the remaining ones are the low-sellers which refuse to move out of showroom floors. The Chevrolet Sail and Nissan Sunny are clocking just a bit more than 200 units a month while the outdated Fiat Linea barely manages around 100 units. The Renault Scala is the lowest selling C-segment sedan with sales of just 77 units.
The D-segment is divided into two parts – lower and upper. The lower segment is led by the Toyota Corolla Altis which is selling way more than its immediate rivals. The Skoda Octavia is fetching decent numbers while the Volkswagen Jetta’s sales have fallen even below the Chevrolet Cruze and Hyundai Elantra post the diesel-gate. The upper D-segment is also led by a Toyota, the Camry which is doing pretty well for itself. Then we have the Skoda Superb which is going to be replaced by an all-new model very soon. The Renault Fluence is almost non-existent in the market now.
