The second generation Hyundai i20 is due for a launch later this year and has been testing across the country since the beginning of 2014. Codenamed IB, the 2015 i20 will receive a number of updates to the design, styling, interiors and features list, while the engines are expected to be more powerful and refined. Now, our eagle eyed reader Mr. Arun Subramanian caught the i20 while on test in Chennai, revealing few details about the upcoming B-segment hatchback.
The images showcase the rear fascia of the 2015 Hyundai i20 that will get new boomerang shaped tail lights, revised bumper design and a rather bulbous tail gate. While the current generation model is known for the flamboyant lines courtesy of the fluidic design sculpture philosophy, the new generation model will see toned down lines for a more mature and sedated look (as seen on the 2015 Hyundai Sonata). The front is also expected to feature swept back headlamps, new hexagonal grille and daytime running lights on the revised bumper. Hyundai has also opted to go for a coupe like roofline that will marginally reduce headroom at the rear, but will give the hatchback a sportier look, compared to the current model.
Interiors of the next generation Hyundai i20 have been inspired from the 2015 Sonata as well. Soft lines and increased space will be a part of the cabin gracing the occupants. Knowing Hyundai, an array of features will debut on the i20 with several segment firsts as well making the hatchback more value for money than ever. The 2015 Hyundai i20 will continue with the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine, paired to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission options. The hatchback also gets diamond cut alloy wheels.
Hyundai has been extensively testing the 2015 i20 globally, which is being developed at the company’s new testing and R&D facility in Nurburgring, Germany and is expected to be a more driver friendly vehicle than the current model. Hyundai will be unveiling the next generation i20 at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October this year, while the Indian launch will happen in the same month. The 2015 Hyundai i20 will be competing against the Maruti Suzuki Swift facelift, Fiat Punto facelift and the Volkswagen Polo facelift.
