Maruti Suzuki will launch the second-gen Celerio with revised looks, a refreshed interior and more equipment, in May 2021.
Despite having been on sale for quite a while, the Celerio still manages to sell well every month. However, a lot has changed since the car’s introduction in 2014 and these days, even city runabouts, like the Celerio, are expected to be crammed with the latest of features.
Thus, the country’s top carmaker has decided to replace it with a new model based on its HEARTECT platform that will be launched by the second week of May this year.
The second-gen Celerio will sport larger dimensions than the car it replaces, which should result in increased occupant space inside, while safety should also be markedly improved.
From previous test mule spy shots, it is clear that the new Celerio have all-new looks that, from some angles, might make it look like a small Baleno, for it will feature panels that have curves, more so than character lines.
Inside, a new dashboard will take its place, and at the centre of it will sit a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
To be offered with the option of 2 petrol engines, one being a 67 HP 1.0-litre unit and the other a 83 HP 1.2-litre motor, the car will also come with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
In terms of the safety dual front airbags will come as standard as per the new rules laid down by the government for new cars, while there will also be ABS and rear parking sensors, with the addition of a rear-view camera at least in the top variants.
The second-gen Maruti Celerio launch will see the model cost more than the current car which is priced between Rs. 4.53 lakhs and Rs. 5.78 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi) and it is not yet known if Maruti will also launch the “X” variant of the new model.
