January was a good month for the scooter segment with considerable individual growth while the fall did not exceed 10 percent for any scooter.
The motorcycle segment is getting a lot of new and exciting products but the urban traffic is making it difficult to enjoy these bikes. This can be considered as a reason behind the growing scooter segment that saw a jump of around 13.5 percent in January.
The Honda Activa is the best-selling scooter in the country and also the best-selling two-wheeler and clocked a sale of 2,10,123 units in January which is 20.65 percent more than the 1,74,154 units of December. The Hero Maestro holds the second position, however, the stablemate Duet is making it difficult for the Maestro to attract buyers, as a result, it registered a 7.84 percent drop in January.
Things were not so good for the TVS Jupiter either as it experienced a fall of 9.27 percent and the reason again was the Hero Duet with a growth of 62.75 percent from 14,893 units to 24,239 units. Slowly but steadily, the Yamaha Fascino is gaining some pace and it managed to sell 17,966 units in January while the Honda Dio is still impressing buyers which can be seen on the sales chart that showed a sale of 17,661 units.
The Suzuki Access is another gainer which sold 14,482 units last month while the Hero Pleasure does not seem to be doing good as it clocked a fall of 7.28 percent. The TVS Scooty Zest after a difficult December is reviving while January sales are more than double the December figures. The Honda Aviator is consistent with a sale of 8183 units.
