You read it first on MotorBeam. A source within the company has given us a scoop on the pricing and waiting period of the upcoming Kia EV6, which is a snazzy looking electric car, all set to be launched in India on 2nd June 2022.
The Kia EV6 will be priced at Rs. 65 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the RWD variant and at Rs. 70 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the AWD variant. This results in on-road prices of Rs. 67 Lakh and Rs. 73 Lakh respectively. The EV6 will be offered in 5 colour options including a Matte Grey shade.
Only 100 units of the vehicle have been allocated for India as of now and deliveries of the AWD variant will begin by September 2022 while RWD deliveries will start by December 2022. The vehicle will be available through 15 dealerships across 12 cities and bookings are being accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. These delivery timelines are for the initial bookings that have already been placed in the last two days and the waiting period is being quoted as 10 months for new bookings.
The booking amount for the Kia EV6 is Rs. 3 Lakh and the cancellation charges are Rs. 50,000/-. However, we are told that the cancellation charge can be negotiated and waved off. Upon enquiring separately, we were also told that the automaker has received 300 bookings for the vehicle but we would like to take this figure with a pinch of salt.
The automaker will officially announce the prices of the EV6 later this week. Kia has tasted success with the Seltos, Sonet, Carens and even the Carnival so it is going to be interesting to see how it pans out with the EV6.
The electric car segment below Rs. 1 crore is going to see a fierce battle because BMW has nailed the pricing of the recently-launched i4 at Rs. 69.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). This is very aggressive pricing and the i4 is quite a looker, it offers sporty driving dynamics and offers a lot of snob value as well. However, the EV6 gets a few more features though.
Apart from this, Volvo is also going to launch the XC40 Recharge in the second half of 2022 and this will be priced at Rs. 75 Lakh (ex-showroom) which means there will be at least three EVs in close vicinity of each other.
Hyundai is also gearing up to launch the IONIQ 5 in India in the later half of this year. However, while the EV6 will be brought down via the CBU route, the IONIQ will come as CKD and thus will be priced much lower than the EV6. We are expecting a price of Rs. 45-50 Lakh for Hyundai’s EV offering.
Looking at the pricing of the BMW i4, we think there is a small likelihood that Kia will probably revisit the prices of the EV6 to make it look like a more VFM proposition but the possibility of this happening is quite low.
