Scomadi Scooters India launch is around the corner; company partners with Pune-based AJ Performance.
If latest reports on the internet are to be believed, Scomadi is all set to enter the Indian market with its scooter range. The name Scomadi stands for ‘Scooter Manufacturing & Distribution’ and this British manufacturer has 2 scooters in its Thailand portfolio – TL125 and TT200. Of these, the TL125 is India-bound and is claimed to be through with homologation requirements already. Scomadi Scooters has joined hands with AJ Performance of India, which will act as Scomadi’s sole distributor for the time being.
Scomadi Scooters, a partnership between Frank Sanderson and Paul Melici, was registered in the year 2005. In the Asian and European, the company has had success with its mass-market products although their limited-edition hand-built scooters produced from 2009 were also very popular. AJ Performance, on the other hand, is a customising house located in Pune. Headed by Alexander Johnson, AJ Performance is in the process of setting up an exclusive Scomadi dealership in Pune.
Scomadi TL125 comes with a 124.6cc single-cylinder, carburetted, SOHC engine that pushes out 9.86 BHP of power and 9.67 Nm of torque. Apart from a bunch of features such as LED headlamp and digital instrument console, the scooter gets 12-inch wheels with disc brakes at either end. AJ Performance plans to keep 6 body colours in ready stock whereas a custom order will be imported and delivered in 3 months. The scooter will be brought in via CBU route and is expected to carry a price tag of Rs. 1.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune).
The Scomadi range is popular for its customisation options. The company offers a range of personalisation options (including paint schemes and finishes) along with a vast accessory list (consisting of luggage racks, windscreen, protective guards and more). In fact, Scomadi also offers an option remap and exhaust that is claimed to bump the power output to around 15 BHP. The automaker will also consider the TT200 for India depending on market response for their first offering.
