The No. 0001 Man !!
He is fond of the Number 1, and he can afford it and will take things to any level to have it. Quizzical? Chandigarh based agriculturist-businessman Jagjit Singh Chahal is no doubt rich, but he also has a fancy for the number 1. His entire fleet of ten cars- all high-end, have number plates with 0001 of different series. So shelling out a phenomenal 17 lakh Indian Rupees for the number for his brand new Toyota Landcruiser at the auction conducted by the Registration and Licensing Authority, Chandigarh, did not have him think twice.
40 years old Chahal’s fancy started with his first car when he was 20, a Maruti 800 for which he took the registration number PB 10 K 0001. His new purchase got a number plate with CH-01 AN 0001.
“I wanted to purchase 0001 of the new series and I was willing to pay up to Rs. 20 lakh. It’s not just me, even my family loves number 1 and all our cellphone numbers also end with our favourite number,” Chahal said.
Impressive, but wise? Well the trend is undoubtedly catching on. The frenzy has been on for sometime now. Fancy numbers are much too sought after these days with more and more people buying better cars. Chahal also owns around 10 motor bikes all of which have 1000 as registration numbers. Boys working in his firm use these bikes for official purposes.
