Royal Enfield recently unveiled its bobber motorcycle concept, the KX Concept. Revealed at EICMA 2018, the bobber concept is inspired by the 1938 Royal Enfield motorcycle which was powered by a 1140cc V-Twin engine. At the time, it was the largest displacement motorcycle produced by the company.

The Royal Enfield KX Concept is a prototype for now with no plans of production anytime soon. But it is likely that this concept model could set and influence the Royal Enfield bikes of the future models of the company.

The concept has been put together at the company’s centres in India and the UK from April this year. Keeping the original KX as a reference, the concept is a blend of the two different design studies – neo-classical and futuristic.

The bike has been finished with a green and copper paint scheme with black and bronze finishes to the engine and dual exhausts and leather is used to wrap the seat and handlebar grips.

The long and low-slung appearance of the bike is further intensified by the retro-styled fuel tank. The concept still incorporates modern elements like the blade-style girder fork design.

The headlamp has a retro look while incorporating LED units. The company has also added a stylised version of the old Redditch ‘E’ for Enfield logo into the front and rear lights.

Behind the LED headlamp, the KX Concept houses a fully-digital instrument console which displays the speedometer and tachometer. This console also displays a digital clock and an odometer. But the unique features of the KX Concept are three icons that reveal the smart connectivity options on the KX Concept.

The features include Navigation system to guide the rider with GPS – a feature which is available only on premium performance motorcycles like the Ducati Multistrada 1260. The other features include WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity to easily control features such as calling or music during the ride.

While details about the engine are still kept hushed, Royal Enfield did mention that it will house an 838cc engine with a V-Twin setup. The display model at the EICMA 2018 had a dummy unit on. This could mean that Royal Enfield is planning to add heavy-weight bikes to its product line-up.

Royal Enfield may be looking to revive its older classics by blending in modern styling cues and higher displacement engines including V-Twins. This will be a move that can put the company on the global map, especially for the middleweight motorcycle space.
