Royal Enfield has been testing the upcoming Himalayan in India since some time now. Recently, it was caught testing un-camouflaged.
If there’s one Indian bike brand which is on fire right now, it has to be Royal Enfield. From starting up new technical centre in order to develop new products to setting up new plants for reducing waiting periods, they are doing it all and in one go. New engines are under development and will debut on new products soon. One such product is the Himalayan which is an adventure bike currently in the testing phase. It gets the new 410cc single-cylinder motor which will be very different from the current crop of engines that the brand offers on its bikes.
Looking at the latest pictures of the bike spotted on test, it looks like a proper adventure bike built for the ones who choose to go off the road often and tour around the country. Off-road tyres with high rise mudguard lend the front end of the bike that mean look whereas the telescopic forks with protective covers make it suitable for bumpy roads. The windshield looks reasonably big and will reduce the wind blast at higher speeds by a considerable margin which would be a boon for highway rides and the high rise handlebars will give a comfortable riding position.
Other elements which look different from the current crop of Royal Enfield bikes are the upswept exhaust, new swingarm design, new instrument cluster and a monoshock rear suspension. It borrows some elements from the Continental GT too like the fuel tank, headlight and the rear-view mirrors. The 410cc engine will produce around 28 BHP of power and will have much better NVH levels than the current engines. Since Royal Enfield has invested heavily in the new technical centre, product quality will definitely improve over time and new products will come out along with the 410cc single-cylinder engine and the 750cc twin-cylinder engine.
