Royal Enfield gearing up to introduce their first electric motorcycle

Royal Enfield is working on their first electric motorcycle which is scheduled to launch in the next two years. This has been confirmed by Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO of Eicher Motors.

He has revealed that the company is currently testing the electric motorcycle prototype and they have put together a team to look into the commercial side of the EV business.

The company has aligned a capex of Rs. 1000 crores for 2023-24 and a part of it is aligned for new product development and EVs.

Royal Enfield has hired around 100 people who are dedicatedly working on the electric vehicle lineup of the company. They are planning a production capacity of up to 1.5 lakh units of EVs at the existing facility. Lal believes that the EV business will be a growth engine for Eicher Motors in the long term.

The new electric motorcycle is speculated to be based on a new dedicated EV platform which is internally called L-Platform. The production version is expected to get inspired by the design language of the Electrik01 concept.
