Owing to poor sales, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 has been discontinued in India.
Royal Enfield seems to have pulled the plug on the Continental GT 535 in India. While few dealerships who have stock are trying to clear them off, dealers who have exhausted theirs are not accepting new bookings for the cafe racer. The motorcycle might have failed to impress the Indian folks but it does come across as an appealing machine in several international markets. However, the motorcycle still continues to feature on Royal Enfield’s official website.
Launched back in 2013, the Continental GT 535 was the company’s flagship vehicle powered by a 535cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled and fuel-injected engine. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the 535cc powertrain outputs 29 HP of power and 44 Nm of torque. The vehicle’s suspension set up was sourced from Paioli while the braking hardware was from Brembo. While the Classic, Bullet and Thunderbird range of motorcycles are doing well, the Continental failed to set the sales charts on fire.
The discontinuation of the vehicle enables the company to focus on its other brands while also leaving some space for the upcoming Continental GT 650 Twin and the Interceptor 650 Twin. Both the motorcycles will come powered by a 648cc parallel-twin engine capable of producing 47 HP and 52 Nm of torque and with the launch of these two bikes, Royal Enfield aims to be the global middleweight leader. The 650 Twins are expected to be launched in India later this year.
