Royal Enfield has officially pulled the wraps off the new Classic 650 at EICMA, expanding its lineup in the 650cc segment. The Classic 650 is designed to carry forward the essence of Royal Enfield’s heritage while offering modern-day performance and comfort. With a look that evokes nostalgia and a build that promises durability, the Classic 650 is expected to appeal to both traditional Royal Enfield fans and new riders looking for a powerful, reliable cruiser.

The Classic 350 is currently the highest-selling model for Royal Enfield in India, and the Classic 650 is expected to follow in its footsteps, largely due to its similar design language that has proven immensely popular. The Classic 650 retains the familiar retro styling that has been a key factor in the success of its smaller sibling.

Specifications and Details

At the heart of the Classic 650 lies a 648cc inline twin engine, delivering 47 BHP at 7250 RPM and 52.3 Nm of torque at 5650 RPM. This powertrain is shared with the Interceptor and Continental GT 650, providing a refined and well-balanced riding experience. The smooth delivery of power and the engine’s characteristic thump are key highlights, making the Classic 650 an appealing choice for long highway rides as well as comfortable city cruising.

The Classic 650 features a similar instrument cluster as the Classic 350, maintaining the iconic look that riders have come to love. However, the switchgear comes from the 650cc siblings, ensuring a high-quality feel and modern usability. The suspension setup includes 43 mm telescopic forks with 120 mm of travel at the front and twin shocks with 90 mm of travel at the rear, offering a balance between comfort and stability. The seat height is set at 800 mm, making it accessible for a wide range of riders.

In terms of stopping power, the Classic 650 features a 320 mm front disc and a 300 mm rear disc, ensuring confident braking performance. The bike rides on a 19-inch front wheel with a 100/90 profile and an 18-inch rear wheel with a 140/70 profile, providing a good mix of grip and comfort. The Classic 650 also features a 14.8-liter fuel tank, which, coupled with its efficient engine, should provide a respectable range for long rides.

However, one of the most notable aspects of the new Classic 650 is its weight. At 243 kg, it is the heaviest Royal Enfield ever produced, which could be a factor for riders to consider, especially in urban settings or while maneuvering at low speeds. The Classic 650 will be available in four distinct color options: Black Chrome, Bruntingthorpe (a shiny shade of blue), Teal, and Vallam Red. Each colorway reflects the bike’s heritage character, with Black Chrome and Bruntingthorpe being particularly reminiscent of Royal Enfield’s vintage color schemes, while Teal and Vallam Red bring a more contemporary flair to the lineup.

Given the immense popularity of the Classic 350 in India, Royal Enfield is positioning the Classic 650 to appeal to a similar market but with more power and enhanced features. The familiar design language, combined with a larger engine and updated components, is expected to attract both loyal Royal Enfield fans and new riders looking for a capable cruiser in the middleweight segment.

Expected Pricing

While Royal Enfield has not officially revealed the pricing for the Classic 650 yet, it is expected to be positioned competitively in the market. Considering the features and specifications, the Classic 650 is likely to be priced around Rs. 3.5 lakhs ex-showroom in India. This price point would make it an attractive option for riders looking for a premium, powerful cruiser that retains the classic Royal Enfield charm while offering modern performance.
