The Rolls-Royce Spectre will enter the market by the last quarter of 2023
Rolls-Royce has picked an evocative name – ‘Spectre’ – for its first electric car which will be delivered to customers starting fourth quarter (Q4) of 2023.
The luxury carmaker which aims to go fully electric by 2030 has announced that it is ready to begin on-road testing of the Spectre.
Making the announcement, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, stated that the Spectre’s test mules will cover 2.5 million kilometres and undergo a simulation of more than 400 years of use.
“You will see these test cars on roads, around the world. Look out for them – they will be in plain sight,” said the Rolls-Royce chief.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre will be underpinned by the marque’s own aluminium spaceframe architecture which is scalable and flexible. First used for the current generation Phantom, it has also spawned the Cullinan and the Ghost.
According to the British firm, it integrated plans for an electric powertrain into the architecture’s initial design.
As to the design of the electric vehicle (EV), it has a similar silhouette to that of the Wraith. Despite being a pure-electric car, it continues to sport the long bonnet all Rolls-Royce cars are known to have.
From the released images, one can see an extremely low coupe body, sharp front end, aero-optimised wheels, doors that open in the opposite way than usual, small windows, wide haunches and a sloping boot section.
No numbers have been mentioned for now. One does not know the Spectre’s battery capacity, power and torque figures, range and importantly, weight. But, the information should slowly come out. Just don’t hold your breath right now.
