Rolls Royce Ghost Series II Front

Rolls-Royce has joined the list of car manufacturers recalling their cars. The British automaker recently announced the recall of a single car, the Rolls-Royce Ghost in North America.

Over 4000 units of the Ghost have been sold till date

Rolls-Royce has finally joined the long list of global car manufacturers which feature companies like Volkswagen, BMW and Nissan and so on to recall their cars to fix faults. Rolls-Royce recalled a single unit of the Ghost which was manufactured on the 23rd of January last year. The British company says that the recall has been announced over concerns of failure of the thorax airbags fitted on both front seats to comply during a side impact performance requirement which may increase risk of injury for both the front seat occupants.

Rolls-Royce mentioned that the issue raised due to incorrect labelling on one of the airbags. The particular unit left the factory floor in Greenwood, East Sussex in January 2014, but its North American owner had not yet taken delivery. Rolls-Royce also said that they are recalling only one car, while other manufacturers recall cars in numbers amounting to thousands.

The fault in the car, according to the BMW owned company will be fixed by a local dealer. The Rolls-Royce dealer will replace both the driver and passenger-side thorax airbag modules free of charge. A letter to the owner states this point while also adding that it is the least the company can offer. The recall of the car was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Rolls-Royce unveiled the Ghost back in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The company has sold over 4000 units of the luxury limo since then. The 2014 model of the car (Ghost Series II) boasts of a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine, producing 563 BHP and 780 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car can reach 100 km/hr from standstill in just 4.9 seconds. In India, the Ghost is priced at Rs. 4.50 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 7-Series based Rolls competes with the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and Bentley Flying Spur.
