Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Boat Tail, a bespoke coachbuilt model which is the most expensive automobile that the British marque has produced to date.
Patent images of the cabriolet, which has led to the expansion of the brand’s bespoke commissioning service to a full ‘Coachbuild’ division, surfaced online as early as July last year.
Since then, it has taken the carmaker close to a year to finish working on the Boat Tail. In all, it took Rolls-Royce 4 years to design and develop the land yacht.
Only 3 examples of the Boat Tail have been produced and being a Rolls-Royce, all of them have been heavily customised based on their buyers’ desires.
To look at, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is exquisite, with its long (it has a body length of 5900 mm) and low grand touring body.
According to Rolls Royce, the 2-door, 4-seat car showcases the refinement of the brand’s ‘post-opulent’ design trend, which began with the new generation Ghost.
Although the Boat Tail uses the Phantom’s platform and 563 BHP 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, Rolls Royce claims every body panel of the car is new.
In total, there are 1813 completely new parts fitted to the Boat Tail, that also has a removable ‘canopy’ roof, including its front and rear lighting units.
The main highlight of the coachbuilt vehicle is the rear ‘hosting suite’ which automatically opens and features 2 fridges, a custom-made cutlery and crockery set, two carbonfibre stools and a parasol which extends from the rear deck.
For proper operation of the hosting suite, Rolls-Royce has added 5 additional ECUs, while 2 fans were also installed to keep the food and drink unaffected whatever the outside weather may be.
And the bespoke features do not end there. The model shown in pictures also comes with a custom-made minimalist dashboard with a centrepiece that has a clock fitting in which 2 watches from Swiss watchmaker Bovey can be placed.
Although the exact price tag of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is not known, some say it costs around £20 million (Rs. 205 crores).
