A Renault Zeo EV has been spotted in India and it looks like the hatchback is undergoing testing for it is wearing TC number plates.
However, the car spotted in the flesh in Chennai is a pre-facelift model and not the latest version that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.
But, it could be fitted with the latest iteration’s battery pack and powertrain and might be undergoing testing to see how it fares on Indian roads.
Having spotted the car undergoing testing, we can assume that its launch is nearing. However, it is said that the carmaker has not yet made its mind up about launching the EV in India.
Then there is the fact that Renault is looking to launch the Kwid-based EV in India by 2022. It was recently unveiled abroad as the 2021 Dacia Spring Electric. Only an official word on the matter from Renault will clear things up.
Currently on sale in Europe, the Zoe has been highly praised and is even called the best small electric car by many.
It has a 52 kWh battery pack and is available with two motors – a 100 kW (135 HP) unit making 245 Nm and a 80 kW (108 HP) unit making 225 Nm.
Official WLTP range of the EV is 395 km for the lower-spec variant, while the higher-powered model would travel 10 km less in comparison.
Using a 7.4 kW wall box charger, the car can be…err…charged between 9 and 10 hours, while using a 50 kW DC fast charger, full range can be attained in just over an hour (subjective change based on the variant chosen).
Features offered on the hatchback include LED headlights, parking sensors all-round, rear camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, blind spot warning, among many others.
When it does get launched in India, it is not expected to be cheap, with prices likely to touch the Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom) mark.
