Global NCAP has awarded a 4-star safety rating for the Renault Triber after the latest round of ‘Safer Cars For India’ crash tests.
The MPV’s 4-star rating is for adult occupant safety, while for child occupant safety, it has received 3 stars. The model that was tested had the basic safety specification with 2 airbags and seatbelt reminders (SBR) for front occupants.
When the car was subjected to the frontal offset deformable barrier test at 64 km/hr, Global NCAP found that the protection offered to the head and neck of the adult occupants at the front was good.
While the driver chest showed marginal protection and passenger chest showed adequate protection, the driver’s knees, once again, had marginal protection, and passenger knees showed good protection.
On the other hand, looking at child occupant protection, Global NCAP found that the child seat for the 3-year-old was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact.
Chest protection for the child was average and the head protection was low. But, the 18-month-old child received full protection. The model that was tested did not have ISOFIX anchorages.
Crucially, the Renault Triber Global NCAP crash test showed that the MPV’s bodyshell was unstable and that it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. But, the footwell area was rated as stable.
