Renault has changed its plans for India. The French automaker had earlier planned to launch a small car at the 2012 Auto Expo, has not pre-poned it. In the above picture, top – Renault’s latest car plan for India, bottom – Renault’s earlier plan for India. The company pre-poned the small car as it wants to to leverage the first Indian Grand Prix, which takes place on the 30th of October, 2011 at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida. Recently many test mules of the Modus were spotted around Renault-Nissan’s manufacturing facility in Chennai. Now everything has been confirmed as Renault’s India website shows Winter 2011, below its small car, which certainly looks like the Modus.
The Renault Modus will be powered by both a petrol and diesel engine, with the French automaker utilizing powertrains from the Nissan Micra. Prices are expected to start around Rs. 4.5 lakhs for the base model. The USP of the Modus lies in the high level of practicality it offers. There is very little doubt that Renault India will use their Orgadam facility to export the Modus to other countries. Renault understand the importance of a small car and has done the right thing of launching its small car much before schedule. We have extensively discussed about the features of the Renault Modus, which can be read here.
