Renault India preparing to develop a new sub 4-metre sedan for 2021 launch.
The compact sedan segment has a lot of contenders in the Indian market. Renault is now considering to launch a sub 4-metre sedan for India as well as export markets. The new Renault compact sedan is likely to make its debut in 2021.
Competing with the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and the likes, Renault looks keen to develop a volume spinner. It will be based on the new CMF-A+ platform of the Triber which will be used for the new HBC compact SUV as well.
The compact sedan space is not only popular amongst private buyers but also a huge segment for the taxi fleet in India. We have seen Dzire, Xcent and Amaze used by Ola and Uber in big volumes. Renault might be considering some amount of market share in the taxi segment.
It won’t be easy for Renault because there are too many players in this segment and even the growing demand for compact SUVs is a big challenge for the French carmaker. The new HBC compact SUV and this compact sedan might cannibalise each other.
