Renault India has announced the launch of the new automatic variant of Scala featuring the new X-tronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). According to Marc Nassif, MD Renault India, the new automatic transmission offers better fuel efficiency with strong performance, smoother ride, better reliability as well as lower cost of ownership as compared to its rivals. The Renault Scala CVT claims a fuel efficiency figure of 17.97 km/l (ARAI certified).
According to the company, the new X-tronic CVT gearbox achieves the widest range of transmission ratio of 3.46:1 featuring a sub planetary gear, which allows smaller pulleys to reach higher transmission ratio. The new X-tronic CVT transmission avoids the shift-shock fluctuations in torque transmission generates almost 30 percent less friction and is 10 percent smaller as well as 13 percent lighter than a conventional CVT transmission. With the introduction of this new automatic variant of Scala, the company aims to expand its presence in the automatic sedan segment.
The Renault Scala was launched in September 2012 and the market has provided a positive response to the sedan with over 3,000 units sold in four months. The Scala CVT will be available only with the 1.5-litre petrol RXL and RXZ variants. The 1500cc petrol unit churns out a maximum power output of 100 BHP at 5600 rpm and 134 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. We expect the price for the Renault Scala CVT automatic to be around Rs. 10 – 11 lakhs.
