Renault-Nissan has surprisingly reached the coveted third position in the Indian sales pecking order with typhoon Kwid decimating every other car in its segment. Honda on the other hand surpasses Tata Motors to gain fourth position in July.
Almost an year ago, if somebody said that Renault-Nissan is going to attain a high position in the monthly sales chart, people would have laughed at them and sped away in their dinky little Altos and WagonRs. But then in May last year, Renault unveiled its ace of hearts in the form of the Kwid which sent shockwaves in the whole country. Now combined with the increased sales of the redi-GO, Renault-Nissan has been successful in capturing the third position in the sales chart for the month of July 2016.
Renault-Nissan has attained the third position in the monthly sales chart for July with combined sales of 18,386 units, surpassing UV major Mahindra by more than 2000 units. The conglomerate is riding on the huge success of the Kwid entry-level hatch which sold 9897 copies, as well as its fast selling cousin the redi-GO which itself sold 3940 units. The French car-maker registered a month-on-month growth of about 5 percent and its Japanese counterpart reported growth in sales of 126 percent in July 2016, compared to the same month last year.
Other Japanese company which is on the upswing is Honda, which after a brief period of sluggish sales, has jumped to fourth position outselling Tata Motors. Honda managed to sell 14,025 cars, just 500 more than the Indian company Tata Motors, with a month on month sales growth of 23 percent in July. A spurt in sales due to realignment of production vis-a-vis the petrol-diesel demand and the success of the refreshed Amaze and BR-V has propelled the growth of the Japanese giant.
The month of July 2016 has been an overall great month for the industry, with leaders Maruti and Hyundai posting good growth numbers by reaping on the demand for cars such as the Vitara Brezza, Baleno and Creta. In fact Maruti posted its highest ever sales in a month in the domestic market ever in July this year. Maruti has sold an overall 1,37,116 units in July 2016, making it a 12.7 percent growth as compared to the total sales figures from July 2015.
