The Renault Lodgy has managing to sell well for the past couple of months and has outsold the Duster SUV in May 2015 sales, much to everyone’s surprise.
The Renault brand name in India is widely recognized thanks to the Duster SUV. Other vehicles from the Renault stable are not particularly crowd favorites in their respective segments and do not roll out in good numbers. The volume generating Duster is sold alongside the Pulse, Scala, Fluence and Koleos models in our country. But Renault recently came up with another utility vehicle, the Lodgy MPV, having realized that offering UVs in its portfolio is the right step for the company in taking matters ahead.
The newly launched Renault Lodgy has been selling well in the MPV segment and even outsold the dependable Honda Mobilio in April 2015. However in May 2015, the Lodgy has even managed to outsell the Duster (amazing isn’t it?). The Duster was able to manage 1429 units while Renault was able to sell 1947 units of the Lodgy in the same month. Can this mean that Renault is no longer a one-brand (Duster) dependent car manufacturer? We don’t know the answer to this question yet, but the statistics point towards the same direction though.
The surprising news might be due to the production constraints of the Duster to support Lodgy’s production. Other than this, the fall in sales of the popular SUV can be attributed to the fact that the model has aged in the market and desperately needs a comprehensive update to keep things fresh and also that the Lodgy is relatively a much newer product and the high sales volumes might just be a result of the initial hype that most models from different manufacturers’ experience. Regardless of this fact, Renault is having an amazing period in the market right now due to the aforementioned vehicles and also because the Kwid largely managed to impress the Indian public at its unveil.
