The Renault Lodgy has been seeing its sales decline consistently over the years. In a last ditch effort to improve sales, the company has decided to start fleet sales of its MPV
Renault has not been able to sell the Lodgy as much as they hoped to. Since its launch, the sales figures have not been great. Finally, after one year on low sales, Renault has decided to start selling the Lodgy as a fleet vehicle. This strategy is Renault’s last hope at bringing the sales of the Lodgy up. The 7-seater MPV never caught on due to fierce competition and an overall market shift due to emergence of compact SUVs and crossovers.
The Lodgy currently averages about 400 unit sales every month, which is far below the company’s expectations. To get these numbers up, Renault will be starting fleet sales of the MPV. This is expected to greatly increase the sales figures. For this reason, Renault will be modifying the current outgoing model to suit the needs of the fleet organizations. The company banks on this segment to provide them approximately 50% of their total sales.
Renault is also planning to launch an AMT version of the Lodgy to help it get the edge even for the fleet sales, as the demand for automatic cars has been steadily increasing over the years in India. It is likely that it will get the same AMT that is offered in the 2016 Duster, as the car itself is based on the same platform.
The Lodgy does possess certain fleet car characteristics, and being an MPV by nature should help its fleet sales be successful. The Lodgy is currently offered with the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine which churns out 85 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque which comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is also available in a higher state of tune with an output of 110 PS of power with 245 Nm of torque mated to a 6-Speed manual transmission.
