The soon to be launched 1.0-litre manual and automatic variants of the Renault Kwid will be offered with dual airbag options and ABS. Thus, the Renault Kwid will exceed safety norms in India in 2017.
The Renault Kwid has been in the press for all the wrong reasons lately. With the dismal performance of the car in the Global NCAP tests, Renault has the enormous task of getting back people’s confidence in the Kwid. With Renault announcing ABS and 4 airbag options for the Kwid sold in Brazil, it left the Indian customers wanting.
With the upcoming launch of its 1.0-litre variant for the Kwid, Renault looked to kill two birds with one stone, as the automaker has stated that it will be offering dual airbag and ABS options for the Kwid. However, just adding airbags is not the solution, as the Kwid’s zero star score was achieved despite it having a driver side airbag. However, Renault has claimed that it has been doing minor chassis tweaks to the cars rolling out after the NCAP tests, which will improve their safety
The new 1.0-litre engine is sure to give the Kwid a healthy boost in performance as the currently sold 799cc motor is no slouch. The bigger engine will produce 67 HP of power and 100 Nm of torque. This will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency of the 799cc engine is 25.17 km/l, so the figures for the 1.0-litre engine will definitely be lower than that, but hopefully not too far behind.
The 1.0-litre manual variant is expected to be launched in this month, while the AMT might be launched by the festive season. Prices of the new variants have not been disclosed yet and price is expected to be higher by Rs. 50,000-60,000/- than the current variants.
