Bookings for the highly-anticipated Renault Kwid have begun and the vehicle will be launched in September at a competitive price point.
The Renault Kwid is easily one of the most-awaited vehicles to be launched this year. Renault doesn’t have many good selling cars in its kitty, except the Duster but the new Kwid hatchback might just turn out to be a game-changer, not just for the company but for the entire entry-level hatchback segment too. The new Kwid will be launched in September itself and while official bookings for the vehicle haven’t started yet, certain dealers have started accepting the same from customers at a cost of Rs. 25,000/-. The Kwid is based on Renault’s new CMF-A platform which will also be used to underpin newer Datsun cars.
The Renault Kwid has great styling on the outside and it looks different than all other entry-level hatchbacks that have flooded the market. The interiors also boast of good quality materials and generous space all around. The company is betting quite big on the product and even we think it’ll be a great alternative to the Hyundai Eon, Maruti Alto and Datsun GO. The Kwid will come with the usual features that are offered in this segment, viz. power steering, power windows, audio system and AC. The vehicle will also benefit from extensive localisation levels of up to 98%.
Thanks to high localisation, Renault will be able to price the vehicle at competitive levels and it’ll surely click with buyers in this segment. At launch, the hatchback will be offered with an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out approximately 57 HP of power. The engine will be mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. 6-8 months down the line, Renault will start offering the Kwid with a 1.0-litre petrol engine too which will be slightly more powerful. The bigger engine will also benefit from an AMT gearbox.
