French automaker Renault is offering really huge discounts on the Koleos SUV which is finding it difficult to move out of showroom floors.
Renault is struggling to sell certain vehicles like the Fluence and Koleos in the Indian market. While the Kwid is performing very well, the Duster is also fetching decent numbers each month which will only increase once the facelift is launched early next year. To boost sales of its slow-moving products during the ongoing festive season, Renault is now offering discounts to the tune of Rs. 6 lakhs on the Koleos SUV.
The Renault Koleos is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, pumping out 147 HP of power and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic gearbox is also offered. The SUV is offered in 4×2 and 4×4 trims. The automatic transmission is available only on the 4×4 trim while the manual gearbox is available on both 4×2 and 4×4 models. The vehicle has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 17.15 km/l.
Renault is offering huge discounts but these offers may include some type of loyalty and exchange bonus too. Also, there is a high possibility that unsold vehicles from the previous year get more discounts than slightly newer vehicles. The Koleos is priced between Rs. 23.52 to 27.81 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai), so benefits of Rs. 6 lakhs will lower down the price by quite a significant margin and will make the Koleos a better value for money proposition.
The Renault Koleos competes with a lot of vehicles in the SUV space. The Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V and Toyota Fortuner are all slightly pricier than the Koleos but the Fortuner is selling the most while the Santa Fe and CR-V are also fetching in more sales than the Koleos. The reason for the Koleos to become a dud was that it was introduced in the market at a time when Renault did not have much presence in India and buyers weren’t comfortable with the idea of spending so much on a relatively unknown brand then.
