Renault has revealed that its Kiger compact SUV’s launch will not happen this year. Like the Nissan Magnite, its launch has been pushed to 2021.
The decision was made since the French carmaker is facing continued supply chain disruption despite its product being ready.
Managing Director of Renault India, Venkatram Mamillapalle revealed that if not for disruptions in both demand and supply, the firm would have launched their new product this October.
He said the automaker is in touch with vendors and issues are being sorted at present, adding that recovery has been faster than expected.
Thus, it has been confirmed that the unveil of the compact SUV concept will take place by November-December this year, while the Renault Kiger launch will happen by Q1 2021.
If Renault does not launch the Kiger this festive season, what will keep its sales up you ask? Well, according to Venkatram, the Kwid and Triber will help the brand revive volumes.
Both cars have good demand for now and will give Renault the breathing space to get ready for the New Year and also ensure that the Kiger compact SUV is adequately available across all of its showrooms ahead of its launch.
Based on the CMF-A+ platform as the Triber, the Kiger will most likely be powered by 1.0-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine options, while there will be 5-speed manual, AMT and CVT gearbox options available.
From the spy shots we have seen so far, the compact SUV will get 3-pod projector headlight and DRL setup, all-black dash with 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, push button start, multi-function 3-spoke steering wheel and dual glovebox.
