Renault India has commenced mass production of the Kiger compact SUV that the brand will soon put on sale in the market.
Dispatches of the compact SUV manufactured in Chennai have also begun to the firm’s dealerships, of which there are more than 500, across the country.
Based on the CMFA+ platform, the Renault Kiger that weighs just over a tonne, will go on to become the most affordable compact SUV, if reports are to be believed.
Do not be fooled by the low kerb weight and think the car will be as lavishly equipped as a prison cell. Top models will come with LED lighting all-round and 16-inch alloy wheels too, on the outside.
While inside, the car will come with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Buletooth connectivity, auto air-con, parking sensors, reverse camera and more.
Being a Renault, storage space inside is abundant and there is a 405-litre boot to swallow whatever people want to throw in the back and yes, there is ambient lighting as well.
Two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) unit making 72 PS and 96 Nm and 1.0-litre turbo motor putting out 100 PS and 160 Nm – will be available with the compact SUV.
Both engines can be had with 2 transmission options, with the 5-speed manual being the mainstay. While the NA motor can also be had with a 5-speed AMT, the more powerful engine will come with a CVT option.
There are driving modes – Normal, Eco and Sport – on offer as well, as are plentiful safety features such as 4 airbags, seatbelt reminder, among others.
With the Renault Kiger production commenced, expect the carmaker to launch the model soon in India, followed by other markets.
