Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault signed a partnership agreement with Jusak Kertowidjojo, President Director, PT Indomobil Sukses International to officially launch the French carmaker Renault in the Indonesian market. Renault will launch the Duster initially which will be locally assembled by its partner Indomobil. The Duster will sport the award winning 1.5-litre dCi “global growth engine” as they call it in the Indonesian market. This engine produces 84 HP of power and is considered to be a benchmark in its category for performance and fuel efficiency.
Following the launch of the Duster this September, the company intends to bring in its premium models namely the Koleos and the Megane Renault Sport. With the launch of these vehicles, Renault intends to create a strong base for European car makers in Indonesia. It is likely that parts for the Duster might be sourced from the company’s facility in Chennai, which already produces the compact SUV for the UK market.
Indomobil intends to establish 45 dealerships by 2016. It also plans to locally assemble the Duster from 2015. The Duster will be priced at 239 million Indonesian Rupiah (around Rs. 13.11 lakhs). The Renault Group has been making cars since 1898 and has sold more than 2.5 million vehicles in 2012 alone. Renault’s venture into the Indonesian market will help the company realise its potential, offering quality products to the customers of the rapidly growing nation of South East Asia.
