The RE Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650 chrome have been showcased at the 2017 Rider Mania.
Royal Enfield made headlines at the 2017 EICMA Motor Show held in Milan, Italy by unveiling its new 650 twins – the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor INT 650. The 650 twins have made their India debut in chrome avatars at the 2017 Rider Mania (held in Vagator, Goa), the largest gathering of Royal Enfield enthusiasts. This year, the event saw a record participation of over 6000 riders and enthusiasts.
The Bullet-maker has brought back the Interceptor nameplate this time and the motorcycle wearing that nameplate is a classic street version featuring a relaxed riding stance, tear-drop fuel-tank, quilted twin seat and wide braced handlebars. The Continental GT 650, on the other hand, is a classic cafe racer. The motorcycle gets a front-leaning stance, clip-on handlebar and a sculpted fuel-tank and these are the distinguishing factors between the two motorcycles.
Both the Interceptor and Continental share the same chassis, engine, suspension and brakes. The motorcycles use standard telescopic forks up front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is via 320 mm and 240 mm discs at the front and rear respectively. Dual channel ABS ensures the motorcycles are safe on roads. Both the Interceptor and Continental come shod with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 100-section and 130-section tyres at the front and rear respectively.
Coming to the heart of the motorcycles, a 648cc parallel-twin powers the two motorcycles. The air and oil-cooled, fuel-injected mill develops 47 HP of power and 52 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Both the motorcycles will be available in a variety of colours and two distinct styles – Standard and Retro. While the Standard range of colours takes inspiration from the motorcycles of 1950s and 60s, the Retro range is a bolder version of the graphics and colours.
