Royal Enfield will double the production of the 650 twins as the waiting period shoots up to 6 months.
Royal Enfield’s premium 650 bikes, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650, have gained so much fan following that there is an enormous demand for the bikes. This has led to a waiting period of 6 months for the bikes and due to high demand & increasing waiting period, the company has decided to double its production to cope up with the bookings.
Following the launch, the deliveries were less than 500 units a month, but according to officials, it was due to the fact that they were meant for test ride purposes and showroom display pieces. Siddhartha Lal said that the production will go up from 2500 units per month to 4000-5000 units a month to cope up with the demand.
There is a simultaneous demand from the international market too for the RE 650 twins as the bikes are also sold in Europe and the USA with the bike also being exported to Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Thailand, etc. This too has lead to an increase in the waiting period.
According to Siddhartha Lal, more than 70% of Royal Enfield’s sales come from the 350cc models dominated by the Classic range, due to the fact that there was not much of a difference between the 500cc model and the 350cc model. But the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 give an option for the customers to move on from the 350cc range.
Royal Enfield has added 20 dealerships during the quarter ending in December, the company hopes to add another 20 dealerships during the current quarter taking the count to 900 by end of March, to keep pace with the wide range of products.
