Land Rover showcased the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show to gauge customer response on the model. There is little doubt that Tata Motors tries to bring out as many models on one platform and they will do the same with the British brands which they now own. The Evoque Convertible looks the part and more so on the roads. The vehicle doesn’t look like the convertible idea was an after thought with the overall design gelling very well with Evoque’s lines.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible makes do with a soft top. A hard top would not be impossible to fit but would add up to the weight and costs marginally. Engine power will come from the same range of engines which do duty on the current Evoque, but we feel Land Rover will offer the Evoque Convertible with a petrol engine only (just like how they do it with the 3-door Evoque version). An Indian launch is quite possible, if and when this goes into production as JLR feel that emerging markets are key to their success.
What will be the price of this SUV and how will it be positioned is still unknown. But what is almost certain is that Land Rover will put the Range Rover Evoque Convertible into production some time next year. This would result in the first luxury SUV Convertible, opening a new segment altogether. We could soon see the trio from Germany following suit, but will they be able beat the heat generated by the Evoque Convertible? That is something only time will tell. Meanwhile, you can ogle at the Evoque Convertible below.
