Fiat has been going through a lot of changes lately. Now the biggest change has been announced by the company. Mr. Rajeev Kapoor who served as CEO and President of Fiat India has retired today. He has been at Fiat since 2007 and reached his retirement age of 60 years. Mr. Kapoor is being replaced by Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, who was so far heading the Powertrain division of Fiat India. Fiat’s Powertrain division has been responsible for a major part of the company’s revenue.
Mr. Bopari also joined Fiat in 2007 but as Assistant Vice President of Manufacturing and Powertrain Divisio. He took over the entire division in 2009 and was recently present at the Fiat Caffe multiple times, giving media important information about Fiat’s highly acclaimed 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. This diesel engine from Fiat has been seen in a wide range of cars and the latest vehicle to get this oil burner is the Premier Rio.
With so many developments happening at Fiat, it will be interesting to see how the company bounces back in the highly competitive Indian car market. Fiat’s is doing many things which could see its market share boost massively. The company is setting up an independent dealership network, thereby turning its focus on sales, service and support to customers. Fiat is also expected to launch new products in 2013, which would help it enter new segments. One of these products could be a 7-seater MPV.
