Bajaj will launch the Pulsar NS 200 ABS variant next year, ahead of the mandatory ABS deadline.
Come April 2018 and all 2-wheeler manufacturers will have to mandatorily offer ABS on motorcycles of 125cc and above displacement. April 2019 will be the deadline for existing 125cc and above bikes to get ABS. This is a welcome move by the Government of India that is intended to make roads safer. Meanwhile, Bajaj is expected to launch the Pulsar NS 200 ABS variant by early next year to meet this deadline well in advance.
The Pulsar NS 200 is available in international markets with a dual-channel ABS already. However, the India-spec Pulsar NS 200 will feature a single-channel ABS due to cost reasons and as its full-faired counterpart, the RS 200 being approximately Rs. 25,000/- expensive also features a single-channel ABS.
From 2020, BS6 emission norms will be kicking in and Bajaj in addition to updating its portfolio with BS6 compliant vehicles is also expected to add fuel-injection technology to the Pulsar 200 NS and Pulsar 220. Bajaj is expected to price the Pulsar NS 200 ABS variant at a premium of Rs. 10,000/- to 15,000/-.
The Pulsar NS 200 ABS variant will come powered by the same 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 23.5 HP of power and 18.3 Nm of torque that powers the current selling Pulsar 200 NS. This engine will come matched to a 6-speed gearbox.
