Bajaj will make available the Pulsar NS 160 rear disc variant soon, priced at a slight premium.
Bajaj launched the Pulsar NS 160 last month at Rs. 80,648/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and took the fight straight to its rivals, the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ and Suzuki Gixxer. Since its launch, if there is something that has been time and again complained about the Pulsar NS 160, it has to be the lack of a rear disc brake (at least as an option) and skinnier tyres.
While all its rivals offer a set of good fat chunky rubber and a rear disc (the Yamaha FZ does not have a rear disc option), the Pulsar NS 160 has been given a miss on this hardware. But now we have news that Bajaj is all set to address this issue with the Pulsar NS 160 by offering a rear disc as an option. Bajaj is expected to introduce a rear disc variant of the Pulsar NS 160 in the coming 3-4 months.
In fact, the upcoming new generation TVS Apache 160 which has been spotted multiple times, is also expected to feature a rear disc as an option. Meanwhile, there might be people wondering why didn’t Bajaj do this at the launch itself. The reason for Bajaj not launching a rear disc variant of the Pulsar NS 160 was to get a good entry-level pricing for the motorcycle and also the customers in this segment are price-conscious.
The Pulsar NS 160 is powered by a 160cc single-cylinder 4-valve engine with oil-cooling that produces 15.5 HP and 14.6 Nm of torque. This motor comes matched to a 5-speed gearbox.
The Pulsar NS 160 will not be replacing any other motorcycle in Bajaj’s portfolio and is a spiritual successor to the discontinued Pulsar AS 150. Adding a rear disc to the Pulsar NS 160, we expect Bajaj to price this variant at a premium of Rs. 2500-3500/-.
