After it was spied testing recently, patent reports of the Bajaj Pulsar CS 400 have been leaked. The patent images combined with the camouflage photos spotted earlier will give a clearer picture of the bike’s styling features.
The Bajaj Pulsar CS 400 was first unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo alongside the RS 400 (then known as the SS 400). In 2015, Bajaj launched the Pulsar RS 200. But there was no sign of the CS 400 which disappointed a lot of people. The recent spy shots however raised people’s hopes for a launch later this year. To further cement this news, the patents of the Pulsar CS 400 have surfaced, which give us further information about its overall design and individual components.
Like seen in the camouflaged photos, the Pulsar CS 400 looks like it will retain most of the design features that were showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The bike looks fresh, and unlike the RS 200, the design seems to be less cluttered. The patent further reveals designs of individual components. By looking at the headlight sketches we can see that it retains the trident-shaped headlamp design. The side profile looks almost identical to the one showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The earlier spy shots also showed two displays, one on the tank and a digital instrument cluster.
The Pulsar CS 400 will probably be powered by a slightly detuned version of the KTM Duke 390’s engine. It will output approximately 40 HP of power and 32 Nm of torque. Being a Pulsar, it will come loaded with things like back lit switch gear, a fully feature loaded digital instrument cluster, projector headlamps and much more. It is also expected to get dual-channel ABS which will be very useful on roads as unpredictable as ours.
The Pulsar CS 400 has been eluding us for almost 2 years now. It one of the most awaited launches of 2016. The styling looks classy and muscular. Let’s just hope Bajaj takes it easy with the decals this time (RS 200 I’m looking at you). Power has never been a problem with the Pulsars. What’s more, it will also be priced below the Duke 390. At an expected price tag of Rs. 1.9 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai), it will be the costliest Pulsar yet. However, at that price point, it will give you good bang for your buck. The CS 400 will truly mark Bajaj’s entry into the higher capacity premium motorcycle segment. With a sports tourer like appearance, it will most likely compete against the Mahindra Mojo and its twin, the KTM Duke 390.
