The Pulsar AS 200 is Bajaj’s first attempt at making a sports tourer

The rightful successor to the extremely popular Pulsar 220F, Bajaj launched the Pulsar AS (Adventure Sport) 200 in April this year, exploring a completely new possibility for the brand. Aimed to be a sports tourer, the automaker took the positives from the 200 NS platform, slapped it with a new semi-fairing, tall visor, single-projector headlamp and an additionally refined motor; all of which have helped the AS 200 turn into a product that offers performance along with practicality. It is also a much better looking product for some who don’t prefer the over-the-top styling the RS 200.

Now, in its newest ad campaign, Bajaj Auto has used the Pulsar AS 200 to do what it does best with power slides, quick manoeuvres and jumps coming more easily to the bike. Interestingly, the surroundings this time have changed for the Pune based automaker’s offering as the AS 200 gambles on the street of Spain during the very famous La Tomatina festival. Bajaj has managed to capture the ethos of the festival and the motorcycle quite nicely with the tagline suggesting ‘Ride an Adventure’. Incidentally though, the La Tomatina festival does not happen until the last week of August every year.

Doing a quick reminder on the mechanicals, the 2015 Bajaj Pulsar AS 200 is powered by a 199.5 liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 23.5 PS of power with 18.35 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike sports a perimeter frame with suspension duties handled by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear. With a kerb weight of 153 kgs, the bike offers a decent power-to-weight ratio and does the 0-100 km/hr run in 10.5 seconds.
