Bajaj is going to expand the Pulsar range of bikes heavily this year. While the Pulsar 200 SS will be launched this month, the Pulsar 200 AS will be launched here by May 2015. The 200 AS is similar to the 200 NS in terms of mechanicals but the bike will feature a lot of cosmetic changes. AS stands for Adventure Sports and hence the company will style the bike in such a way that it looks quite rugged and robust. The Pulsar 200 range will look complete then because the 200 NS is a naked bike, the 200 SS is a fully-faired bike and the 200 AS will be an adventure motorcycle. The Indian bike giant has already begun testing the 200 AS in various parts of Maharashtra.

The Bajaj Pulsar 200 AS comes with various useful features. The front features a tall windshield while the headlights will make use of projectors. The side of the bike will come with a partial or half fairing. The rear of the bike will share its styling with the 200 NS though there might be minor changes made. The Pulsar 200 AS gets a regular-sized mudguard at the front. The rear tyre too gets a short mudguard but the rear number plate will be mounted on a bigger mudflap unlike the 200 NS and 200 SS which have a shorter tail-tidy kit. We can expect the 200 AS to get some nice colour schemes that blend in well with the bike’s character.

Mechanically, the bike remains similar to its siblings. The Pulsar 200 AS is powered by a 199.5cc liquid-cooled, triple-spark carbureted engine churning out 23.52 PS of power and 18.3 Nm of torque. The engine is matched to a 6-speed transmission. The suspension components will also remain unchanged mostly but we may expect Bajaj to tweak the suspension travel range slightly to suit the bike’s needs. The 200 AS will get MRF NyloGrip Zapper rubber which provides better grip than EuroGrip tyres. The 200 SS will get a dual-channel ABS system which the 200 AS might not get it. The Pulsar 200 AS will be priced at approximately Rs. 1.15 lakhs (on-road).

The Pulsar 200 AS has no real competitors as of now
