Tata’s upcoming compact sedan, codenamed the Kite 5 has been spied without camouflage in what looks like its production ready guise. The Tata Kite 5 seems set to launch around this year’s festive season that is just a couple of months away.
As Tata Motors gears up for its launches in the upcoming festive season, its compact SUV, the Kite 5 has just been spied in what seems like production ready guise. The Tiago based sedan was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo, is part of Tata’s first phase of all new passenger vehicle launches in India under its new strategy.
The spy images reveal quite a lot of the exteriors of the sedan. The boot looks quite neatly integrated into the overall design, which is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to compact sedans. The Tata Kite 5 gets sleek wraparound tail lamps which further help in integrating the boot, and giving the car a better side profile.
The boot lid then has a big chrome strip to align the Kite 5’s design with the current hot chrome trend in the market. The boot will be able to swallow 420-litres of luggage which is a best in class figure. Lastly, we can also see a huge LED brake light which has been mounted on what looks like a hatchback inspired rear spoiler.
On the inside, the Tata Kite 5 looks very much like its hatchback sibling, the Tiago. The car spied seems to be the top spec variant, as it gets all the goodies, like the Harman sound system, ABS, dual front airbags, alloy wheels and fog lamps. The rear seats also get a centre arm rest that doubles up as a cup holder.
The Tata Kite 5 is expected to be offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel engines that come with the currently sold Tiago. The engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, with possibilities of an AMT box being on offer soon. As mentioned above, the Kite 5 does not have any direct rivals, apart from the upcoming Chevrolet Essentia that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
