Bajaj has commenced the production of Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 at its Chakan manufacturing facility. The entry-level eighth-litre Svartpilen will be manufactured alongside the Swedish brand’s 250 twins and 401 twins in India.
Unveiled in February 2021, the Svartpilen 125, which will first head to European markets, looks pretty much like the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 with the bronze engine covers and anodised components.
There is one key difference though – the wheels. Unlike the quarter-litre Svartpilen, the 125cc model is fitted with wire-spoked wheels that have dual sport tyres.
Since it is based on the KTM Duke 125, the Svartpilen 125 is powered by the same 125cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine found on the Austrian brand’s small bike.
The motor is good for 15 HP maximum power and 12 Nm of peak torque and will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The chassis is also borrowed from the Duke 125.
Fitted with WP Apex inverted front forks and rear monoshock (142 mm travel at both ends), the Svartpilen 125 comes with ByBre braking hardware (320 mm front disc with 4-piston caliper and 230 mm rear disc with single piston caliper) assisted by dual channel Bosch ABS.
The motorcycle is expected to be joined by the Vitpilen 125 soon and it will also be be made at Chakan, where the Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 production takes place.
Likely to be launched in India as well, the Svartpilen 125 will be priced lower than the KTM Duke 125, just like how the 250 twins from the Swedish brand cost less than the KTM Duke 250.
