Praga is a company based in Southwest Slovakia, where the Autodrom Slovakia Ring track, built in 2009 is located. The Autodrom Slovakia Ring track has hosted FIA World Touring and GT1 championship races. Praga has recently introduced its track car, Praga R1, which is the company’s third car after Praga R4 and R4RS. The Praga R1 features a 2.0-litre, four cylinder engine churning out 207 BHP of maximum power. The engine is also used in the Formula Renault car. The Praga R1 boasts a carbon fiber chassis with carbon and Kevlar bodywork, which results in a low 3.58 kg/kw weight to power ratio and a kerb weight of around 590 kgs.
The engine features a Cosworth / Pectel ECU with traction control mated to a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox placed in the rear. The transmission comes with a transaxle configuration with pneumatic paddle shifts and a ZF Sachs twin plate clutch. The car boasts a double wishbone fully adjustable aluminum suspension with AP Racing discs featuring four-piston calipers for braking. According to the company, the car is also ready to be driven on public roads if required.
The Praga R1 conforms to all FIA safety regulations and it can also be fitted with an optional passenger seat and front lights. Rear lights along with turn signals come standard with the car. Production for the Praga R1 has started in November after testing the prototype model in October. The first cars rolling out will compete in the one-make Praga Cup series around European circuits. Praga R1 will be built manually in Czech Republic and will come with a starting price of 98,000 EUR (Rs. 71 lakhs).
