Porsche has unveiled the Taycan Cross Turismo, the rugged version of its electric sports car, through a virtual event.
Resembling the Mission E Cross Turismo concept showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo looks very similar to the sedan upfront.
The estate body with a slightly sloping roofline, a raked rear windscreen, roof spoiler, and a different tail section help set it stand apart as the more practical version of the electric model range.
Featuring off-road design elements including wheel arch cladding, front and rear lower aprons and side skirts, the Taycan Cross Turismo also comes with an Off-Road Design package that adds flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and at the ends of the sills to provide protection from stone impacts.
As standard, the EV comes with LED headlights, 19-inch aero wheels, electrically adjustable comfort seats, partial leather interior and Sound Package Plus.
Due to the body shape, rear seat passengers now have more headroom, while the load capacity is rated at 446 litres. To keep occupants comfortable over long distances, the EV comes equipped with adaptive air suspension as standard.
In all, 4 variants of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will be available right from the get-go and all of them come with the 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus as standard and sport a 800-volt architecture.
At the bottom sits the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo with 280 kW (380 PS) that has 350 kW (476 PS) overboost power for launch control. It can do the 0-100 km/hr in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 km/hr. Rated range is 389–456 km (WLTP).
Then comes the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo with 360 kW (490 PS) and 420 kW (571 PS) overboost power. This variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.1 seconds and top out at 240 km/h, while it has a claimed range of 388–452 km.
Up next is the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo with 460 kW (625 PS) (500 kW (680 PS) overboost power) that does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 3.3 seconds. It can go on to achieve a top speed of 250 km/hr, while having a claimed range of 395–452 km.
Sitting at the top is the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo which has 460 kW (625 PS) (560 kW (761 PS) overboost power) that can smash the 0-100 km/hr run in 2.9 seconds and do 250 km/hr tops. However, it has a lesser certified range of 388–419 km.
All 4 variants feature the high-tech chassis with all-wheel drive. Customers can choose the optional Off-Road Design package for increased ground clearance (by up to 30 mm). The EV even comes with a “Gravel Mode” to handle rough terrain.
The carmaker has developed a rear carrier that can hold up to 3 bicycles for the
Taycan Cross Turismo. In addition, Porsche has also launched 2 e-bikes – Sport and Cross – to go with the EV.
Set to be launched this summer overseas, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will cost from 93,635 euros in Germany. That is Rs. 82 lakhs in Indian money at current exchange rates.
Finally, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, Oliver Blume, has revealed that by 2025, half of all the new vehicles the firm delivers will have an electrified drive (fully electric or plug-in hybrid). So, Porsche has accepted that the future is electric after all.
