Porsche Unveils The All-Electric Taycan 4S

The Porsche Taycan 4S is the more “economical” variant of the Taycan.

The Porsche Taycan was unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show

Porsche has always been synonymous with perfection in the world of sports cars, but they have also branched themselves in various other segments. Recently they have entered the territory of the EVs which has been dominated by the American automobile manufacturer Tesla for the longest time. The German automaker has stepped in the game with its latest offering in the form of the Porsche Taycan and has had the industry talking about it.

The Porsche Taycan was unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, with two variants for the model, being the Turbo and Turbo S (no, the car does not have any turbos. It’s just the Porsche nomenclature). The Taycan is an AWD all-electric EV, that encompasses two electric motors at each axle with a 2-speed transmission along with a 93.4 kWh battery. The Turbo variant has a power output of 680 PS and 850 Nm of torque, while the Turbo S variant produces a mind-boggling 761 PS and 1050 Nm of torque.

Although the Turbo and Turbo S variants brag for being more powerful, they also make a big hole in the pocket. To solve that issue Porsche has introduced the third and the more “economical” variant of the Taycan called the 4S trim. The new 4S trim is equipped with a smaller 79.2 kWh battery which is good to produce a 530 PS and 640 Nm of torque and a WLTP-certified range of 406 kms. Additionally, Porsche offers a Performance Battery Plus option pack, which bumps up the battery to 93.4 kWh, producing 571 PS and 650 Nm of torque and a range extension of 56 kms taking the 406 kms figure to 462 kms.

The Taycan reaches the 100 km/hr mark in just 4 seconds, but sadly the Performance Battery Plus option pack does not affect the 0-100 km/hr number. Although the 4S variant is pretty similar to the higher variants in terms of technical make-up, the rear motor is 80 mm shorter than it is in the Turbo and Turbo S. Additionally it receives smaller brakes – down to 360 mm and six pistons on the front, and 358 mm and four pistons at the rear.

Moreover, there are a few exterior styling differences such as the smaller 19-inch wheels, red-painted callipers, different front apron, side sills, and a slightly new designed rear diffuser. The dynamic LED light fitment is standard for the Taycan 4S as well. For the interior the part-leather is standard, but Porsche does offer a leather-free interior that amalgamates recycled materials.

Though the Taycan has been unveiled globally, the car will go on sale in 2020 in the Indian subcontinent. Moreover, there has been no announcement made by Porsche for the price of Taycan in India.
