Polaris, which is widely known for its All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) has just unveiled its latest product. The new vehicle is a three-wheeler called Slingshot. Even though it is a three-wheeler, it has been classified as a motorcycle. Due to this, both the rider and passenger need to wear helmets while travelling in the Slingshot. Additionally, the rider also needs to have a motorcycle license to ride the Slingshot. It is a great move that helmets have been made mandatory for this, since it comes with an open top and hence there would be safety hazards for the rider and passenger, such as wind resistance, etc.
The Polaris Slingshot looks really well designed. The styling is uber and classy and it screams out coolness. This beast will surely be an attention-grabber wherever it goes. The front end is very radically designed and it consists of four lights. The side profile too looks good but the Slingshot does not come with any doors. The rear consists of just one thick wheel. The insides come with seats that are similar to the ones found on cars. Polaris has even provided three-point seatbelts. Overall, it would be safe to say that the Polaris Slingshot three-wheeler looks straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie.
Powering the Polaris Slingshot is a 2.4-litre Ecotec engine that churns out 173 BHP of power and 225 Nm of torque. The Slingshot weighs just 756 kgs so the power-to-weight ratio is quite good and it should give out some insane performance. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Slingshot gets a short header exhaust and carbon fibre reinforced rear belt drive. The Polaris Slingshot will start selling in the US by September and is priced from $19,999-23,000 (Rs. 12.01-14.41 lakhs). It might be launched in India. The key rival of this machine is the KTM X-Bow.
